During the 14th graduation ceremony at St. Lawrence University, the Vice President of Uganda, Maj. Jessica Alupo, delivered words of wisdom and encouragement to the graduating class. Serving also as the Chancellor of the university, Alupo emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges, urging the graduates to pursue their aspirations with unwavering determination.
“During the journey towards success, graduates will inevitably encounter hurdles and setbacks,” noted Vice President Alupo. “It is in these difficult moments that individuals’ resilience and perseverance are put to the ultimate test.”
The ceremony, held on 22nd February 2024 at the university campus, saw graduands receive academic accolades in various fields. Alupo, in her role as both Vice President and Chancellor, addressed the graduates with a message of hope and resilience.
“Embrace these moments as opportunities for growth and development, and never let fear or doubt hold you back,” she advised, highlighting the transformative power of facing challenges head-on.
In addition to words of encouragement, Vice President Alupo cautioned the graduands against being unpatriotic in the pursuit of their dreams. She also brought attention to the ongoing threat of HIV/AIDS, urging the graduates to remain mindful of their health as they embark on their journeys beyond university.
Alupo stressed the importance of building and maintaining a strong network of professional connections. “The relationships you forge today will provide you with valuable insights and advice, serving as a source of support and guidance throughout your careers,” she emphasized.
Reflecting on the graduates’ time at the university, Alupo highlighted the valuable lessons and experiences that have shaped their academic knowledge and practical skills. She underscored the significance of critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication as foundational skills for future success.
Recognizing the ever-evolving nature of the world, Vice President Alupo encouraged the graduands to embrace continuous learning and growth throughout their careers. “Learning knows no boundaries,” she affirmed, urging the graduates to seek out opportunities to challenge themselves and expand their horizons.
Alupo also took a moment to acknowledge the support system that has enabled the graduates to reach this milestone. She expressed gratitude to parents, families, friends, guardians, and mentors for their unwavering support, emphasizing the debt of gratitude owed to them.
As the first-ever female Chancellor of St. Lawrence University, Alupo commended the university’s growth and development. She attributed the success of the institution to the government’s policy on Liberalizing Education, which has opened doors for private sector investment in education.
In closing, Vice President Alupo congratulated the graduands on their accomplishments, acknowledging their efforts, hard work, dedication, and resilience. She expressed hopes for their success, happiness, and fulfillment in their chosen paths, urging them to be proud of their achievements.
“May you all find success, happiness, and fulfillment in your chosen paths, and may your lives be filled with endless opportunities for growth and learning,” Vice President Alupo concluded, inspiring the graduates to embark on their future endeavors with courage and determination.
