The crime rate around Uganda’s second biggest public university is shooting up. Students are often times beaten up and their property stolen as they stroll back to their hostels at night. Our reporter Ayazika Phillip took time, dug deep and compiled Kyambogo university’s top five deadly black spots that we think students should try to avoid as much as possible in the night time. Here’s the list:

1. Madonna -Bavana Pitch

Topping the list on Kyambogo university’s deadliest routes is the small pitch route that connects Madonna to Bavana hostel. This area is a dangerous zone that harbours thugs especially in the night. These thugs beat up students and steal their belongings. In less than one month, two cases of theft have been reported at that place.

2. Kyambogo small gate.

Secondly is Kyambogo’s small gate that connects to the campus’ faculty of vocational studies via National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC). This back spot happens to be one of the darkest routes around campus, despite the university’s efforts to assign guards to that place, cases of robbery at still being registered.

3. Kyambogo college school.

Also on the list is the university’s neighboring school, Kyambogo College. It being a day school, it does not harbour many people in the night time and it’s normally a dark area and thieves also use it to steal from students especially those who use it after their night lectures.

4. Imara Pub.

This party  place is in the heart of Banda. However, it has in the past proved itself one of the most dangerous places around Kyambogo university. It normally harbours low life drunkards who are referred to as “Banda boys.” These are responsible for terrorizing Banda. And this place has had students lose lives and others wounded.

5. West-end Pitch – Fisher road.

This place is located within campus. However, it is on the extremes (secluded) of the university and as such less attention is given to it in terms of security. For beginners, Fisher Road is that which connects the Medical Center to the West-End main hall via the Seventh Day Adventist church. It’s composed of a forested valley normally very dark at night and it harbours many thugs during night.
