One of Uganda’s most high-profile churches has sensationally fired a pastor over allegations of sexual immorality — in a move that has sent shockwaves through its thousands-strong congregation.
Watoto Church, famed for its zero-tolerance policy on moral and ethical breaches among leaders, confirmed that one of their pastors has been removed from his position after claims he engaged in sexual activity with a female member of the church.
The announcement was made in dramatic fashion during Sunday services across all Watoto branches, with the congregation told to switch off cameras before a pre-recorded video from church leadership was played.
“We uphold high moral standards and expect our leaders to exemplify them,” the church declared in the message, before asking members to “pray for Pastor (names withheld)” during what they described as a “difficult season.”
Watoto’s strict biblical code leaves no room for compromise — and insiders say dismissal is automatic for any leader who breaches its standards.
The church did not reveal further details of the alleged relationship, but members say the fallout has left the congregation reeling.
