Druscilla Mayanja, a final year student at Makerere University is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and Technology. The Makerere finalist is also making some ka money as a crocheter.
Druscilla grew the passion for crocheting a year ago after seeing a top on Instagram. She realized she could make the top so she decided to get the needed equipment and make it. She later went on YouTube and followed a tutorial that helped her learn and ended up making as many clothes as she could.
Besides crocheting, she likes listening to music and reading novels.
The focused Makerere finalist told Campus Bee that she faces a few problems while doing her crocheting work.
“Customers expect the work to be the same price as the other clothes they wear yet this is handmade and it requires a lot of time and attention,” she said before explaining that access to good quality yarn is hard and costly.
After finishing her degree, she wants to study further at the same time grow her crocheting into something bigger and possibly own a space where she will work and sell more of her products.
Follow her on Instagram @rowsandstitches for more of her work.
