As university students in rural areas find a hard time to hold their lectures online, a Uganda Christian University (UCU) student who preferred to remain anonymous has reached out for help following the university’s decision to hold online lectures and take home exams as end of semester assessment.

The student, who comes from Bundibugyo has further revealed that due to lack of internet, laptops, electricity and smart phones, several students are likely to fail these exams. The students, who are on forced holiday in a bid to curb Coronavirus spread are expected to resume studies after 32 days.

“Let me hope this message finds you well. I am a student offering a bachelor’s degree in law at Uganda Christian University Mukono. The university announced that we would do online lectures and take home exams as our end of semester assessments but they failed to put into consideration the biggest number of students who come from rural areas, with no network, no smart phones, no laptops, no printing places and no electricity in our places. We are full of fear of failing to do exams and what has increased our fear is the out break of covid 19,” the scared UCU student said.

Apparently several students are scared to reach out to the university directly as it could have them suffer serious consequences under the university’s hand. The student also claims that UCU officials are becoming defiant regarding this matter.

“I personally come from Bundibugyo and I have no way to do those exams. Please help the poor us, we are left with nothing to do since this is beyond us. Please help us and tell the university. Thank you so much and please don’t disclose my name.” the students added.

“Help those students please, they requested me to reach you for their help. They are filled with fear since the university may do something bad to them when they confront it directly and the officials are becoming too defiant.” The student explains further.
