The Rector of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Dr Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo has asked the students of the university to increase prayers to defeat the novel Coronavirus. In his letter titled “Update on the University Progress During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” Dr Sengendo says the situation needs God’s intervention to be dealt with.
“While this is a serious existential threat, we must not lose hope in the power of Allah to save the situation. Accordingly, we must all pray for Allah’s intervention to save the situation. Meanwhile , we must obey the Government guidelines , and increase our acts of ibadat (supplications) as we desist from acts that could earn us the anger of Allah (God),” Dr Sengendo said.
The IUIU Rector adds the situation is a clear indication that God is only the controller of the world.
“This tragedy should be very clearly remind us that ultimately , it is only Allah (God) who is in full control of all our affairs . Hence, let us all turn to our Creator for divine deliverance from this pandemic. Further, let us also learn the lessons presented to us by the current situation as we pray and hope for a better future,” Her said.
He further says no student should report to the university with confirmation.
“When will the university re-open? This will depend on when the Government of Uganda decides that Universities should reopen. As of now , the tentative date of reopening the University is 2nd May, 2020 as guided by the Honorable Minister of Education and Sports. However this may change depending on the situation of COVID-19 by the end of this month (April 2020). Hence, no student should report back without first confirming that indeed the University is reopening on 2nd May, 2020,” Dr Sengendo says.
The IUIU Rector has assured students and staff of full support during this situation.
“As management , we shall not hesitate to provide any support that is within our means to our staff and students. We are in this situation together. Insha Allah, with the cooperation and prayers of each one of us, we shall successfully go through this together. May Allah guide, bless and protect you,” Dr Sengendo says.
