Today morning, thousands of Makerere new students stormed the freedom square to attend their general orientation ceremony ahead of their first year at campus. These new freshmen were tipped by various Makerere top leaders including the Guild president, deputy dean of students, head of security, and the academic registrar who was the top guest at this event. The head of finance also informed them of various fees structures and how they are supposed to be paid.
While speaking to the freshers, Makerere Guild President Kato Paul commonly known as KP lectured the new students about the titles of University leaders, by warning them of calling him the head prefect. “Here at Makerere there is no head prefect, you will be calling me the Guild president,” Kato lectured.
On Matters of security, Makerere’s head of security, Jackson Mucunguzi used his 12-year experience at Makerere to warn freshers of smart conmen. Mucunguzi who has been at Makerere since 2005 emphasized more advice to girls who are likely to be lured into sexual activities over campus excitement.
While wrapping up the event, Makerere’s academic registrar warned the new freshers of being too excited about joining Makerere, as he revealed that they are not yet Makerere Students officially. He revealed that there will be An official admission ceremony come 22nd September at the freedom square.
