Kyambogo University Muslim association led by their chairperson Lule Bashir penned a letter to the University Dean of students protesting the unfair treatment of the Muslim Community at entrance and exit points of the university.
This comes at a time institutions are experiencing tight security presence in the wake of bombs that have claimed lives of people.
The association chairperson says that the act by security officers violates Article 24 and 29 of the 1995 Uganda constitution that says, “No person shall be subjected to any form of torture, cruel, in human or degrading treatment.
“Freedom to practice any religion and manifest such practice which shall include the right to belong to and participate in the practices of any religious body or organization, in a manner of consent with this constitution” Lule clarified.
Our sources reached out to a student leader and activist, Hon Nkurunziza Alphonse to get an insight on this which he acknowledged to have been a challenge and consented with the requests from the Muslim Community.
