The Public Relations Officer of Makerere University, Dr. Muhammed Kiggundu has come out to urge graduands who will not be able to access graduation gowns to come for the graduation in their casual clothes.
He also added that he believes that the same pomp, glitz and glamour that the graduands were going to pull out with a gown on can still make the same sense without the gown.
“Students can still come in their clothes and graduate because I believe and hope that the same glamour and glitz that was going to be pulled out with a gown on can still be pulled out without the gown on.”
He said that what matters is the qualification and document that one has got because no one will take it away from you whether you graduated with a gown or not. Kiggundu however said that, they are still hopeful that they shall receive the remaining gowns before the official start of the 70th graduation ceremony and they shall be given out to their would-be recipients.
Meanwhile, the tailors outside the university, with most of them being in Wandegeya have already made these same embroidered gowns and are selling each at sixty thousand shillings.
A total of 13,509 students is expected to be imparted gratuitously with degrees and diplomas during the four day graduation ceremony slated for 14th to 17th January 2020 in the Freedom Square.
