David Musiri, the head of institutions at National Unity Platform (NUP) and longtime ‘lover’ to Dr. Stella Nyanzi is among the student protestors that were remanded to Luzira prison.
Musiri, together with other 8 students were arraigned before Buganda Road Court on October 5 to answer to charges of being a common nuisance.
Magistrate Fidelice remanded the 9 student protestors to Luzira prison till October 10 when their case will be heard again.
Former Makerere University research fellow Stella Nyanzi (currently in exile) has come out fuming over the remanding of the student protestors.
According to Stella Nyanza, the students were remanded due to the incompetence of lawyer Shamim Malende.
Nyanzi alleges that Malende snatched the papers of the sureties, failing the photocopy of required documents thus the remanding of students, including Musiri, her lover.
“Why did Shamim Malende drag her long nose into the criminal case at Buganda Road Court, snatch sureties’ papers, leading to unnecessary remand of student protestors. How can failure to photocopy be a reason to remand suspects?” Nyanzi fumed.
David Musiri was arrested with 8 others in a protest against the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project on October 4th.
Musiri and colleagues were in support of European Union’s position that EACOP project was in violation of human rights.
