Today, Radio personality, James Onen asked a question I thought I should share with the Campusbee readers. He queried: “Have you also noticed that young people seem depressed? 24 and younger. Why do you think this is?”
The comments equally had a lot of sense in them. I will share with you a few of those that I found very true.
Harriet Lilian Chelsea Social media is affecting them…they are raising their standards and admiring people way older than them and what they post(which might not be the reality tho)..so they get depressed because they are lazy to achieve all that and to work hard..they want everytging done…few of them are still hard working!no work=no future
plans=no happiness.
Swagga Arnold High expectations. A psychological influence by the pop culture and yet inconsiderate of the economies and our societies. The mind is craving for more than what the body can get and as a result frustration and use of anti depressants like alcohol, sex and other drugs.
Julius Kawooma Bleak future
with no light at the end of the tunnel,,with corrupt old niggas in public offices not moving an inch,,wt do u expect??
Kahrol Kiki I think they are trying to walk before they crawl… They just need to chill n enjoy their younth. things ain’t as rosey as they seem on social media n in music videos.
Kasozi Musa Drugs..Alcohol..Women..Bars..everythg is but these r effects of lack of motivation..goals n mainly Employment! Most kids even from stable families lack jobs!
John Njoroge The lack of patience and proper guidance. Parents have become selfish and have left their teenage children to the world. These teens now want to live like their parents. Drink, eat, drive and live the best. Yet these things come with time hard work and patients. Now you cannot force them to come and if you do force these things to come ur way before you are ready, they can destroy you. The situation is made worse with cheap internet, cheap alcohol and cheap women.
Uma Julius I think most of these young people expected too much only to end up on the path of frustration. Seen what’s happening in South Africa? Young people turning their joblessness onto immigrants.
To me, all the people above are right. I think we want to live a luxurious life. A life that can only be attained after years of disappointments and persistence. This life needs patience. You will not drive over night. Don’t see you agemate driving and you instantly want to drive too, you don’t know what they have gone through.
Instagram doesn’t make it any easy. Whenever you log onto Instagram, all you see are photos of people seemingly having ‘perfect’ lives, which in reality, is not true. Instagram has changed the way we see things, we want to look like those that we follow. Expensive shoes, cloths and phones. How then do you expect not to be depressed? how???
