Diploma and Bar Course student tie for Vice Guild president race
Two students at the Law Development Centre (LDC) have tied for the highly contested position of deputy vice president (Kampala campus) for the year 2018/2019. Habasa James a student pursing a post graduate diploma in legal practice (bar course), and Omugwa Emmanuel from the diploma class scoredthe same votes (207) according to the vote count that was conducted by the electoral commission of the LDC.
Elections at LDC took place yesterday for the whole day, and a count was conducted later in the evening.
The by election will be held on Friday October 26 and the two candidates have been allowed to solicit for votes from their supporters in a fresh election that is yet to take place.
However, one candidate, Kibirige Apollo Kasujja already has secured a victory for the same position from Eden campus, Mbarara.
According to the Guild Elections Guidelines 2018, the position of guild president is to be assumed by a student of LDC Kampala campus, while leaders for the position of vice guild president is to be represented by a student from Kampala Campus and another from Eden campus, Mbarara. The same applies for the position of deputy prime minister where two students are to represent each campus.
The position of the guild president was also contested by students from both the bar course and diploma. 4 candidates were vying for the position of guild president, with 3 students from the diploma students. However, Busulwa Ivan, from the bar course emerged the overall winner for post of president.
The position for prime minister, and the minister of entertainment, sports and social welfare were also contested by the students from the Kampala campus.
The other positions were uncontested after the candidates emerged unopposed for the positions of deputy prime minister for Mbarara (post grad student), and the other candidate from Kampala (diploma student). The minister for academic affairs, minister for information, and the minister for students with special needs were also unopposed.
