The 34th Annual Ramadhan Convention of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) commenced on Saturday, 8th May, 2021. This year, a 2 day convention was held virtually in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
IUIU New Rector Professor Ismail Gyagenda gave a keynote address of the convention. Professor Gyagenda began by thanking God for enabling the Islamic University in Uganda survive in the period of COVID-19 pandemic.
Among others who presented also include, IUIU Females’ Campus Dr Madinah Nabukeera. Dr Madinah shed more light on “Gender Sensitivity and Awareness within Muslim Institutions: Challenges and Prospects.”
In her address, Dr Madinah who holds PhD in Public Administration from University of Malaya in Malaysia said in most situations women are not treated equally as men. She said for example female managers get lesser money compared to male managers despite having similar qualifications and roles which is questionable.
Dr Madinah who studied her Bachelor of Public Administration specializing in Local Government and Master of Public Administration at the Islamic in Uganda urged women to believe in themselves. She said women have the capability to erase a stereotype that perceive men as superior over them.
The IUIU Females’ Campus Director commended IUIU for empowering women. Dr Madinah said IUIU has women in leadership positions which is commendable to ensure gender equality.
The 34th Annual Ramadhan Convention has been organized by Dawah Liaison and Community Outreach Committee under the theme “Reclaiming the Lost Glory of the Muslim Ummah through Reviving Islamic Values.” The virtual convention is ending today, Sunday, 9th May, 2021.
