Greenhil Academy, Buwate has come under fire for stocking its school library with inappropriate books, Campusbee has learned. This comes after a concerned parent found two romance novels in her eight-year-old daughter’s school bag- titled, “Girls in Love and Love Lessons.”
On asking where she got the novels from, the pupil revealed that she had borrowed them from the school library.
Bewildered, this parent went ahead to share photos of the novels in a WhatsApp group to seek help from her fellow parents on how to handle the matter. The concerned parents [in the WhatsApp group] have since went ahead to circulate the images of these inappropriate books on various social media platforms.
The several inappropriate books shared are filled with sex content whereas others appear to be promoting homosexuality.
School apologises
Mrs Joy Veronica Maraka, the rector of Greenhill Academy, Buwate, in the wake of this incident issued a public apology to the school’s parents for allowing pupils access these inappropriate books.
“The school has embarked on a thorough re-cataloging and assessment of content in the library so that no such incident re-occurs,” Mrs Maraka said.
Mrs Maraka however requested parents to seek audience from the school’s adminsitration instead of “running to social media”.
“We believe that the use of social media in such circumstances may not be the appropriate platform for resolution of issues that concern the upbringing and confidence of minors.”
