Eng. Winnie Byanyima, the Oxfam International Director and wife to Dr. Kizza Besigye, has come out to refute social media rumors that their family will be forking out a whooping Shs. 250 million p/a for their son’s education at the prestigious Harvard University in the States.
Through micro-blogging site Twitter this evening, Eng. Byanyima has clarified for her followers that her deadlocked son Anselm is the proud beneficiary of a full scholarship courtesy of the highly competitive _Harvard Alumni Fund_.
The former legislator who has recently shaken the country’s political landscape after allegedly declaring her intentions to contest for Uganda’s presidency was forced to clear the air following a mini backlash from social media users who were questioning the source of the Shs 250M p/a that the family would allegedly spend on Anselm at Harvard.
Harvard is one of the “ivy-league” schools in the United States. It is an elite university, even by American standards. Harvard accepted only 5.2 percent of all applicants this year, making this admissions cycle the most selective in Harvard’s nearly four-century history, according to _The New York Times_.
When he arrives at Harvard, Anselm will join a long list of American presidential children who have attended, including John Quincy Adams and his son, John Adams II; Abraham Lincoln’s son Robert; the sons of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt; Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of John F. Kennedy; and George W. Bush. Anselm will be joined in 2017 at Harvard University by Malia Obama, daughter to current US President Barack Obama after taking her gap year.
“We are very grateful,” – Eng. Byanyima ended her tweet.
