Makerere University has officially refuted claims made by Mr. Serunkuma regarding his affiliation with the institution. In a detailed press statement released today, the university clarified that Serunkuma, who has been misrepresenting himself as a political theorist based at Makerere, no longer has any relationship with the university.
The statement, issued by Ritah Namisango, Makerere University’s Principal Public Relations Officer, shed light on Serunkuma’s academic history at the institution. According to Namisango, Serunkuma enrolled in a university-funded, five-year interdisciplinary PhD program in social studies in 2012, which included a master’s degree component.
While he successfully completed the master’s degree, he failed to meet the necessary academic requirements to progress to the PhD stage and was subsequently terminated from the program, in line with university policy.
“Mr. Serunkuma does not hold a PhD from Makerere University, is not currently affiliated with the university, and has no ongoing relationship with the institution,” the statement read.
This clarification comes in response to Serunkuma’s repeated public assertions linking himself to Makerere University. The university’s leadership sought to correct these inaccuracies to protect its reputation and to prevent further dissemination of false information.
