Since its inception, the Young Achievers Awards has arguably been the most prestigious awards’ event of its kind in Uganda. The Awards look to celebrate and make known young people who have greatly impacted Ugandan society positively, save for the Lifetime achievers category that was awarded to the late Dr. James Mulwana, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, H.E Paul Kagame, among others.
The awards that were last held in 2013 were rekindled today with a new lead. Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) earlier today launched the 2017 edition of the Young Achievers Awards that are to be held 12th August coinciding with the International Youth day.
“As RAHU, we are committed to changing the lives of young people… The future is now,” said Omuk Joseph Kigozi, the chairman board advisory committee of RAHU earlier today during the launch.
Humphrey Nabimanya, the founder of RAHU emphasised that many young people are doing great things but are not getting recognised hence the need to revive the dormant awards. “We have very many people creating a difference but they lack a platform, this time, we bring that on board,” he said.
RAHU has been mandated by the co-founders of the Awards, Awel Uwihanganye and Ivan Kyambadde Serwano to spearhead the Young Achievers Awards initiative going forward.
The awards will celebrate 10 most outstanding young people in the categories of Social Entrepreneurship, Business, ICT and Innovation, Outstanding sports personality, media and journalism, farming and agro-processing, music, fashion, film & photography, young achiever of the year, young hero/heroine of the year and the Lifetime Achievement award.
Speaking at the launch earlier today, Rt Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minister emphasised that the government fully supports the initiative. ” This is quite an exciting morning, I salute all those behind this great initiative. Young people are talent, young people are skills, young people are making a difference,” he said “the government fully supports this initiative,” he added.
