Nagwere Gerald, a student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mbale campus has penned down an open letter to Makerere University Guild President Shamim Nambasa on the recently concluded students strike against online learning.
Nagwere has openly revealed that he has been a real supporter of Nambasa ever since she took on the guild presidency position. However, he was disappointed by the way how Nambasa and her fellow students disrespected the current Vice chancellor of Makerere University Prof Banarbas Nawangwe when he was told by angry students to go leave Makerere University and go to Kyambogo.
Here is Nagwere’s full letter to Shamim Nambasa
Dear Nambassa Shamim, I hope you are well and this letter gets you in good health, I pray it reaches you. Before I bleed my mind, let me make myself known to you…
Call me Nagwere Gerald, a UCU (Mbale University College) student of English and Literature in English, the Author of The Masaka Massacre. I’m (I must say) a good supporter of you and I’ve an extreme liking for the leadership qualities embedded in you. You are such a darling I would love to meet.
That aside, I pen this context in infuriating disappointment of you. An ache of anger is eating up and tattering my feeling toward you.
I’m pretty aware of the bizarre at our ‘mighty’ Makerere University. I also know of how it would be a tough conundrum for any leader like you to find a concrete quick fix.
The Makerere students, under your leadership have an absolutely valid cause–the economy is fully reopened and there’s no reason for the institution to be opened for only those of a specific caliber. It’s completely diabolic those behind that should fix it.
However, it’s so ill and unethical of you rallying with shallow minds for a deep cause. The statement on one of the placards as you paraded in protest; “Nawangwe ziiii. Go to Kyambogo. Makerere Deserves better…”
Imbecility has galloped your people I can’t be rough to say it’s swallowed you too. Is your ilk’s intention to send Nawangwe to Kyambogo? You are completely – foolishly going wrong. It’s a total shame you didn’t condemn the display of the placard with such a quagmire sentiment. It’s a naked shame of y’all…
The adjective ‘better’ in the stupid notion is so embarrassing. Do you and your ilk–the political party you’re affiliated to advance for social strata amongst the populace? Does Makerere deserve better and Kyambogo–other universities bad or worse? In other words, your folks would have pushed for a better for all… “No one is safe” as your political party affiliates have always put it…
I’m convinced you were not at center stage of designing that rubbish, but I blame you so much for failing to ‘censor’ what you are using in the cause. It’s so aching down to my marrow. I’m sure so many Kyambogo students were behind your push, but how many will find reason to move on till it’s achieved?
If you are to get to your demand, screen those you are with, lay off the mediocrity and display sincere and relevant reasons in line with the cause.
I believe you can achieve whatever you are pushing for–surely, you will. But in the first place, streamline your dictums. ‘Censor’ your ilk’s sentiments my dearest Shamim.
In whatever mood you perceive this, I come in extreme peace.
Your Exasperated Supporter
NAGWERE GERALD.
