On Saturday, Makerere Sports Grounds was filled to the brim with many humans garnering to participate in a plethora of activities ranging from the usual recreational games like football, volleyball, basketball, egg and spoon racing, sack race, 3-legged race among others to the more of the indigenous games; ludo and ‘kwepena’ while some used the sports grounds safe zones to play parental games (daddy and mummy).
It was indeed another a sports day. The fundraising event (GHC404FieldDay) started on a rather harsh note with heavy down pour in the early mornings of the day. But this didn’t stop the enthusiastic group of youth from representing later in the day.
Very participant paid a Shs. 3000 fee to join the entertainment and a total of 4,059,950 Uganda shillings was raised 40 Days Over 40 Smiles CEO, Esther Kalenzi confirmed.
“4040 thanks because you made a dormitory payment of 4 million shilling on the girl’s dormitory,” Esther tweeted.
This recently completed fundraising event was the first of it in the race to collect money to build a dormitory for girl child belonging to Elohim Child Development Association an orphanage located in Bombo.
The fundraiser was organised by charity group, 40 Days Over 40 Smiles in conjunction with Global Health Corps.
The charity group is remembered to have built a dorm for some cute little ones in Luweero and that was approximately 2-3 years ago.
The Elohim girl dormitory will accommodate 30 girls and the project is estimated to consume UGX 20 million which will be obtained from a series of fundraising events.
