A 25-year-old man, Mugerwa Trafford Jamil, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after being arrested and charged with computer misuse in a case involving Phaneroo International Ministries and its lead pastor, Apostle Grace Lubega Matovu.
According to the charge sheet, Mugerwa is accused of using a YouTube channel titled “There Is Still Hope” to share, post, and publish information allegedly intended to ridicule, degrade, or demean the image of Apostle Grace Lubega and Phaneroo International Ministries.
Prosecutors allege that Mugerwa, together with others who are still at large, committed the offences between 2023 and November 2025. The state further claims that the content published on the channel created hostility and negative public sentiment against Apostle Grace Lubega, one of Uganda’s most prominent Pentecostal church leaders.
Mugerwa appeared before court where he denied all the charges, insisting that the content he shared on his YouTube channel was purely his personal opinion and did not amount to criminal wrongdoing.
The court subsequently remanded Mugerwa to Luzira Prison as investigations continue. He is expected to return to court on a later date for further proceedings.
The case has drawn public attention, particularly online, with mixed reactions from Ugandans. Some have raised concerns about freedom of expression and the application of the Computer Misuse Act, while others argue that digital platforms should not be used to spread content deemed defamatory or harmful to individuals and religious institutions.
By the time of publication, Phaneroo International Ministries and Apostle Grace Lubega had not released an official statement regarding the case.
