The troubled reign of Henry Byansi as Nkumba university Guild president finally came to a close yesterday evening after he was dragged to police on charges of swindling guild funds, Campus bee confirms.
Byansi had totally failed to avail the required accountability let alone transparency in his dealings as President and these woes can be traced as far back to this years Nkumba university bazaar where over 8 million which was supposed to help in the smooth flow of the bazaar went missing.
The same situation went on during the university’s freshers ball as another 8 millions failed to be accounted for and all fingers seemed to point at the main man, Henry Byansi who failed to present adequate information or pleasing facts on where his cabinet had spent such a huge amount of money.
With all these and more, yesterdays double strikes at Nkumba just sped up Byansi’s downfall which could be cited from afar. The strikes erupted at the law school as students opposed the unfair policies at the university while others chanted in high spirits, demanding for the Mr & Ms Nkumba function accountability where, the guild was availed with 16 million for the event yet the office released undeserving 3.5 million shillings.
According to our well placed sources in Nkumba, participants were given glasses as gifts and to make matters worse, some of the members on the organizing committee who partly sponsored the event had not been refunded to date, a thing which is believed to have banged the last nail in Byansi’s regime as these couldn’t settle for less.
While at the police post yesterday evening, Byansi agreed to pay the alleged money before the end of December this year. He later went ahead and handed in his resignation as the Varsity’s guild president.
Generally, the guild office has been under performing as it on many occasions failed to meet it’s expectations and therefore the down fall of short lived Byansi could be smelt from afar…
