A wave of unrest erupted at Kyambogo University this morning as students marched to the Senate Building to submit a petition opposing the administration’s recent suspension of the 2024/25 guild elections.
The decision, announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka on October 25, cited concerns over alleged irregularities within the electoral body.
In response, students protested, rejecting these claims and voicing anger over the planned installation of a caretaker government.
They argued that this interim body would limit their representation and undermine their ability to address critical issues effectively.
During the protest, police intervened, arresting several students as they gathered at the Senate Building, underscoring the growing tension between students and administration.
Students expressed frustration over what they see as an attempt to suppress their voices and rights, insisting that the suspension of the guild elections threatens their influence over important campus matters.
It remains to be seen how Kyambogo University administration will respond to the situation.
