Have you ever considered working for a university? Working while in college is one of the initial steps to gaining financial freedom desired by many. I started my first job when I was still an undergraduate student and am where I am today because of it. The question many people want an answer to is “how to study at work without losing focus?”

Financial freedom is one of the sweetest privileges to have, especially when you are still an undergraduate in school. Working as a student helps develop attributes of self-discipline, time management and budgeting skills. It is an opportunity to prepare you for the real world once college education is complete.

College Jobs You Can Apply To

So, how do you go about finding a job at the university? Many students find it very difficult to secure a job while still in school. This is because many employers look for experienced personnel with sufficient skills and knowledge. There aren’t many entry-level jobs available to accommodate all students and fresh graduates. This means that you must grab any opportunity that comes your way.

However, you can apply for a position as a part-time employee at your university. In order for such an arrangement to work, you have to be committed and preferably a part-time student. After all, you don’t want a crush program where you have a class and work schedule at the same time, do you? You can apply for any of these positions and feel how it feels to work for a university;

  • Lab assistant
  • Software engineer

  • Assistant Librarian
  • Canteen worker

All these positions are considered to be entry-level jobs that students qualify to do. Applying for such positions is very easy and does not have many requirements. However, there is always a condition that comes with such opportunities. Many universities will look at your academic performance to determine if you are well qualified.

How Do I Get a Job at the University While Studying?

Advertisements for such positions are easy to come across since first priority is given to students. Keeping tabs with the careers’ office gives you the chance to know of such jobs as soon as they are advertised.

Getting the job is does not mean that you get to forget all about your education. I worked as a research assistant in college, but I had to sign an agreement first. The condition was I would lose the position if my grades went below an average of B.

Once you get the job, you need to understand that failing in your academics is not an option. Now the challenge becomes, “how do I balance work with academic papers and assignments?” Let’s focus on how to overcome this challenge.

How to keep up with academic assignments

A balance between academics and work is very important for a part-time student. There is more to life than just books and work. Spare some time for yourself to enjoy life alone or with a group of friends. So, how do you manage keeping up with all academic assignments and work schedules and still get time for yourself?

1.     Use online writing services

Using writing services does not necessarily mean that you are a lazy student. However, before opting to buy a research thesis online, you have to settle on the right service to work with. You must have a guarantee from the site before you order a research paper online. Be careful with who handles your paper to avoid scammers.

2.     Making the most of every opportunity

Since time is not a luxury, you must learn to utilize it to the maximum. You can spend the time between your shifts buying shopping, meeting friends or even working on a pending assignment. It is always advisable to keep tabs with every free time you have in your daily schedule.

You can even use online tools to proofread and edit your assignments while on a bus ride home. Every free time should be put into good use.

3.     Organize your time perfectly

Organize your time to accommodate each and every important task. While I was working and studying, I used to ensure that I record all my assignments and their deadlines in my diary. I would ensure that I know which paper to work on first. Not even once was I late in handing in my assignments.

Keeping such a diary can be of big help. You are buying time to handle all your responsibilities fast.

Benefits That Come Along With Working as a Student

There is a positive impact you gain by working part-time while still in school. These include;

  • Financial freedom
  • Budgeting skills
  • Financial responsibility
  • Time management
  • Custom skill sets

Furthermore, you get to invent ways how to study at work and keep scoring the best grades. Being a student and an employee is a great learning opportunity as well as an eye-opener.

Conclusion

The first thing you ought to do while looking for a part-time job at the university is to ensure that your grades are perfect. Basically, this is the most important qualification that many universities look for. The challenge begins when you get the job. The luxury of time you had before is no longer there, meaning you have to manage your yourself better.

Getting a part-time job does not necessarily mean that you get to purchase all your papers and assignments online. Many students have conquered this challenge, and so should you if you choose to. All you have to do is believe in yourself. Good luck!
