Jumia Food, a leading online food delivery platform in Africa, has appointed Timothy Mugume as the new Country Manager for Uganda.

Mr Mugume, who has been the Jumia Travel Country Manager, brings to the company a great expertise and understanding of e-commerce amassed over the past 5 years. He is a Chartered Accountant who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Makerere University where he majored in Finance and Accounting.

“We are excited to see Timothy bring his experience of winning in a fiercely competitive space to our Jumia Food business in Uganda. I am confident he will lead us to the next stage of growth, as we double down on offering the best food delivery experience for our customers,” said Ron Kawamara, the Regional Managing Director of Jumia Food.

Speaking about the appointment, the new Jumia Food boss elaborated his plans to grow the online food delivery business in Uganda and his aspirations to mitigate existing industry challenges.

“We are currently delivering food for over 160 of the best restaurants in Kampala and Entebbe in under 60 minutes, with various cuisines; giving customers a wide assortment of meals to select at affordable prices. Plans are underway to expand the restaurant database and delivery radius to greater Kampala,” said Mr Mugume, adding that with the current increase in traffic to the site, Jumia Food will continue providing diverse, convenient, and quality customer service.

“We are also delivering fresh groceries and partnering with big distributors to deliver alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at the best market prices”.

On dealing with both existing and emerging industry challenges, he highlights the need for efficient delivery services, as well reliable and affordable internet connectivity. “Unfortunately, sometimes there are internet outages and improper signage. However, we have come up with innovative solutions to mitigate this, with for instance a zero rated app courtesy of MTN Uganda and best in class location applications specifically developed for the market,” he notes.

The ardent believer in great Customer Experience, the best way to show value to a customer, is convinced that through technology, Jumia Food will continue changing Ugandans’ lives.
