Kabale – The MTN Foundation has today handed over a refurbished and furnished Kamukira Health Centre IV in Kabale District to the health centre administration. The health centre got a complete facelift after MTN Foundation committed Shs300m for the cause that also included donating items like beds, mattresses, bedsheets, blankets and mosquito nets. This event took place on Friday 27th February 2019 at Kamukira Health Centre IV in Kabale District.
“Through the MTN Foundation, MTN Uganda continues to show its commitment towards improving the livelihoods of Ugandans. We identified this health centre because it had an urgent need and services quite a number of people. The MTN Foundation refurbishments will go a long way in improving the services offered by the health centre,” said Gordian Kyomukama, the Acting CEO MTN Uganda.
The donation formed part of the MTN at 20 celebrations that are taking place in Kabale through the MTN Expo currently ongoing at the Kabale Stadium. Since October 2018, MTN Uganda has been celebrating 20 years of operating in Uganda. The regional expos are part of the celebration until 25th May 2019 and Kabale was the first stopover.
The regional expos are part of MTN’s indication that it remains committed to operating in Uganda for years to come.
“We have been celebrating the connections made of the last 20 years. The MTN customer has been able to connect because they are on the network. However, that is not all a telecom should do. Through the MTN Foundation, we are ensuring that connect communities to essential health and education services among others,” said Charles Mbiire, the Chairman MTN Uganda.
The handover ceremony was graced by The Prime Minister of Uganda, Right Honourable Ruhakana Rugunda. Rugunda commended MTN Uganda for the work to foster communication in Uganda and for the several initiatives to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.
“I once again commend the MTN Foundation for this great work and for the demonstration of great corporate social responsibility by contributing to the improvement of health care of the disadvantaged communities in Uganda.
We look forward to even more support from our friends at MTN Uganda and hope that even other companies will follow their example for the greater development of our country,” he said.
The MTN Foundation is expected to carry out charitable events as part of the activities to mark 20 years in Uganda. The remaining expos will take place in Gulu, Lira, Fort Portal, Mbarara, Arua, Hoima and Mbale districts.
