I am James a software engineering finalist at Makerere University. I am suffering from multiple addictions and it’s affecting my academics and defining the wrong friends for me. I am addicted to sex, alcohol, and drugs. I can’t spend two days without having sex, lest I lose my mind. I smoke over five weed joints everyday and I have turned into a chain smoker. Whisky, Vodka, gin, beer have turned into my daily cup of tea. My addictions are weighing heavily on me, I have slept with almost every girl in Kikoni and it’s shameful when I walk around and all I see are girls that have been beneath my sheets. I am a mess and I need a way out, help me.
Many say that addiction is a brain disease but I would like to differ. Addiction is a habit, and it’s all about choice. The first step towards getting over it is making up your mind and setting yourself ready to quit, remember there are withdraw symptoms and problems, but you’ll eventually get over it.
For sex addiction, it can mainly be blamed on your high libido thus you should make yourself a little more busy than you already are ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’ Push yourself and spend a week without sex and without masturbating, make yourself busier than you already are, and most of all, don’t get so beaten up.
With quitting, you have to take it a step at a time, you need the strength from every corner thus if you’re a church person, call onto God for strength and rely on friends and family for support. The next step is reducing the intake from nine bottles of beer to five, from five joints to two. Then consistence follows suit after which quitting will walk by your side.
