The newly named City of Arua will in a month’s time be home to the biggest start-of-the-art urban market in the country.
The 40-billion-shillings Arua Central Market being constructed by Dott Services in partnership with Sadeem al-Kuwait, is in the last stages of completion. This magnificent urban market will be home to thousands of traders in the West Nile region with a capacity of over 4,600 lockers.
Locals are over the moon and cannot wait for the newly built Arua Central Market commissioning. Anguzu Ronald, a resident of Arua city and a trader of agricultural produce who our writer interfaced with during a guided tour of the market by Dott Services Ltd said; “This new market, I am hopeful, will attract more traders from neighboring DR Congo and South Sudan. This means more market for our agricultural produce on top of a well organized market.”
This Arua Main Market was identified as one of the 21 key markets for construction in 19 urban centers including Kampala under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Project, a five year Africa Development Bank-funded project.
This market is fitted with components such as value addition facilities for processing and packaging of commodities, restaurants, state of the art garbage management system, storage facilities, and a modern public address system with ceiling speakers for easy communication, daycare center, and installation of solar for reliable power among others.
