Vodafone launched two new apps to make the lives of both its subscribers and non-subscribers much sweeter. The first app is My Vodafone and the other Vodafone Chat + but let’s talk about Chat+ because it’s something I would recommend for campus students.
Chat+ is a mobile app that allows Vodafone customers to make voice and video calls over the 4G network as well as chat and share files with friends. Before you bubble about how they’re tonnes of apps that already do this, remember that Chat+ is free and doesn’t consume your data.
4G voice and video calls made using the Vodafone network on Chat+ are free (zero-rated) except when the calls are being made to other networks. Chat+ is about keeping up with your buddies and family using next generation technology and this why the app isn’t limited to only Vodafone subscribers. You can use any number from any other network and use the app for chatting with all your friends on the network however you won’t be able to use it without a data bundle.
Basically when you have no credit or data bundle and you are using a Vodafone sim card then you can easily communicate with friends and family on the network. However calls to other networks will be billed on your airtime. At campus airtime can be a problem due to brokenness and this app is a solution to the annoying ‘your-account-balance-is-too….’ voiceover lady.
I had to a chance to test the Chat + app and I actually liked it. The first screen shows all your contacts and there is a tab to show you all the contacts that are on Chat+. The app lets you set a profile picture and birthday so that your ‘blesser’ and friends don’t forget your birthday.
I tried out the voice and video calls over the clear 4G network using Chat+ and they were clearer than the usual voice calls on usual networks. In a chat with Vodafone executives, we were informed that Vodafone is going to setup WiFi hotspots around universities like KIU and others where students can access information free as well as use features of Chat+.
The Chat+ application is not only available on Android and iOS but also as a standalone application for Windows and MacOS. Unlike WhatsApp web which needs your smartphone to be switch on or connected, the PC applications of Chat+ can work alone meaning you won’t need bluestacks if you have no smartphone.
Are you ready to embrace a world where we use data for everything. And an even better world where we make voice and video calls using free 4G data?
If the answer is yes, then download the Chat+ app from the Google Playstore, AppStore and Windows Store.
