A few year s back, that should be during the last presidential campaigns, I received a beautiful MTN T-Shirt free of charge. I thought my new shirt would make an incredible contrast with my best black Jeans so one Thursday (Yes, I do remember the day), I dressed up neatly to go visit a friend. I had to make my way through a market place and that is when all hell broke loose; abuses were thrown my way loaded with big accusation of being the person who has tied them with “the man”. I was pulled from either sides as I made my way through. I kept thinking to myself ; But it’s an MTN promotional T-shirt. Surely you can see that! There was no reasoning with the people that kept pulling me. Crowds don’t think. We are now into another campaign period. What are your don’t do’s ?
Avoid political party colour T-shirts.
Underline the word T-shirt. Try to keep away from implicating political colours. You have your best Yellow, blue or green T-shirt but please leave it to rest. Look at the positive that it will still be new looking after the elections. You can however put on these colours in other forms like checked shirt, a dress should be pretty fine as well and so on.
Leave political signs to the candidates
Signs are a trend to most of us. More than being political signs, they are our way of communicating. We do that kinda Besigye sign to mean peace, that Kigalo sign to probably indicate to a friend at a distance that things are good or that pistol like sign of TDA to indicate to a friend that they are in trouble with you. As much as we might not mean them politically, imagine if you were seen signing an opposition sign during a specific campaign. Let the imagination of what would happen guide you.
Desist from Political arguments
Like foot ball arguments, political arguments are quite infectious. What starts as a simple argument soon gets firely and can lead to fights and a possible police arrest. You don’t want that.
I removed from my home in my MTN T-shirt with no political reasons. I didn’t even find a political campaign but a market place almost had me beaten. You don’t know what you are going to find but just remember “CROWDS DON’T THINK.”
