Defending Champions of the Pepsi University Football League, Kyambogo University were shown the exit door from the competition after losing to Bugema University (2-3) on aggregate in the Quarter finals on Wednesday 25th September.
Kyambogo University football team, which earlier lost to Bugema on the latter’s home ground (2-0) in the first leg of the quaterfinals made an attempt to make a comeback after scoring 2 goals in the 2nd leg. However, all this wasn’t possible as they conceded one more goal, making them 3 on aggregate and hence a 3-2 total score.
Kambale Aldrine (Bugema University), Bukenya Uthman (Kyambogo University) and Nsamba Paul (Kyambogo University) found the back of the net for both teams.
This loss was a shocker to many who thought that Kyambogo, which won the trophy last year in a heated contest with Kampala University at Namboole, would somehow retain the title.
However, Kyambogo University students have cast the blame on the University Football League organizing committee for taking Kyambogo’s home game to Luzira instead of letting them play it at their home grounds where they have two football pitches and would actually have enjoyed home support.
