The Nile special University football league knockout stages will kick off next week on Wednesday 21st September 2016 with Makerere University versing their rivals Kyambogo University in Luzira at 2:00pm in what we can call the University derby.
Eight Universities qualified in this year’s knock out stages after finishing in the top four of their respective groups. Group A Kampala university,Nkumba University, Makerere University, Uganda Martyrs and Group B Kyambogo University, UCU, Gulu University, , Busitema University.
Unlike last year’s match between Kyambogo and Makerere university, this time organisers have decide to change the venue for the best hence tightening security thereby coming up with location as Luzira prison to avoid unnecessary clashes.
Speaking at a press conference today at Katikati, the University League chairman said that the League is now competitive and interesting, no such activities such as violence shall ever surface in the university League.
The games will be played on home and away basis. It should also be noted that last year’s defending champions MUBS are out of the group stages after being knocked out by Gulu University, which means that we are looking forward to having a new champion this season.
