The 18th edition of inter-university games started yesterday (Monday 16th December 2019) with a football match between the hosts University of Kisubi (UNIK) and Gulu university at St. Mary’s College Kisubi’s main play ground where the hosts won with a goal to nil.
This year’s theme is ‘’celebrating sports and science innovations’’ with over 20 Ugandan universities participating in various games such as wood ball, football, table tennis, badminton, long tennis, volleyball, basketball, swimming rugby, scrabble, athletics and chess.
University of Kisubi are debutants of this inter-university games but their coach gained more confidence after winning their first football match against the giant Gulu University despite the fact they were only 10 players after one of their player David Kanyola was red carded for misbehaving.
The vice chancellor of UNIK, Prof Ssebuufu John thanked the organisers for chosing UNIK to be the host for this year’s inter-university games. ‘’University of Kisubi is humbled to host the inter-university games this year, as a young university, it is a dream come true for the growth of the university.’’ Prof Ssebuufu said.
The players are accommodated and use facilities of St Mary’s College Kisubi, Entebbe Cricket Oval (for athletics only), Entebbe Institute Club, Kisubi Savio Primary School, Kisubi Seminary and UNIK.
