Online retail shop Jumia Uganda are the new sponsors of the Ntare Lions League. The latter, who started their 11th season yesterday at their new play grounds, King’s Park Arena in Bweyogerere announced the sponsorship on Saturday during their launch and press conference at Panamera Bar and Restaurant in Naguru.
The League has 17 teams made up of different class years of Ntare School and a girls’ team from their sister school Bweranyangi Girls’ SSS in Bushenyi. Their season start was a goal fest with the members across the teams finding the back of the net for a combined total 42 times.
Besides Jumia Uganda, the league committee headed by former National Cricket Team Captain Davis Karashani announced other partners that included Guinness, NXT Radio and Peakshots Photography.
Before kickoff, the League PRO Seth Nuwagaba Kafureeka observed a moment of silence in memory of Doribert Atwesigye, who was shot dead by an askari in Banda. Atwesigye was a student at Ntare in his high school days and resided in Chrichton House.
The League will run for 18 weeks and is the oldest old student’s football league in the country. The defending champions are Nshera FC, the S.6 class of 2010.
