Over 50 teams with over 1000 students participate in tournament
The 2016 edition of COPA Coca-Cola Uganda came to an end with a spectacular final game and closing ceremony held in Teso College, Aloet and attended by community leaders, school heads, FUFA officials as well as officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Now in its 27th year, COPA Coca-Cola, an international youth football tournament and a global celebration of football passion, gathered over 1000 students from different schools across the country saw Kibuli SSS emerge 2016 victors after a very eventful action packed game against the tittle holders St Marys College Kitende in a tense shoot-out.
Speaking after the game, Rodney Nzioka, the Coca-Cola Uganda Brand Manager congratulated the winning team upon their victory and encouraged all the participating schools to keep training and not to give up.
“I would like to congratulate all the schools that have participated in the 2016 COPA tournament, especially the winning team for their remarkable display of talent. We can now confirm that the future of Ugandan football is in good hands,” he said.
“At Coca-Cola Uganda, we pledge to continue nurturing young talent through this grassroots football initiative,” Nzioka concluded.
COPA Coca-Cola is an international youth football tournament and a global celebration of football passion. It unites more than 1 million teens in over 60 countries around the world, and aims to provide both the means and the opportunity for young teens to be optimistic about their future while encouraging values that are the foundation of life and sportsmanship.
This tournament is the world’s largest brand-supported grassroots football tournament, led by global beverage giant, Coca-Cola, and has, for the past 27 years, built values such as team spirit, friendship and respect in the hearts of the youth participants.
