Makerere University has been granted a lease on life by the University Football League (UFL) to resume participation in this year’s edition.
The UFL Appeals Committee received an appeal by Makerere University to revoke the Disciplinary Committee Ruling DC-2022-4 that had decided that Makerere University loses the match of 19th May 2022 to YMCA Comprehensive Institute by forfeiture (3-0), docked 6pts and 6 goals from those already accumulated, fined UGX 1,000,000 and given a suspended suspension of five (5) seasons.
However, the Appeals Committee that sat on 20th June reviewed the Disciplinary Ruling and decided as follows:
- Makerere University loses the match of 19th May 2022 to YMCA Comprehensive Institute by forfeiture (3-0).
- Is docked 4 points and 4 goals from those already accumulated.
- Is fined UGX 1,000,000 (One million shillings).
- Is given a suspended suspension of three (3) seasons. Should Makerere University be involved in such any acts of hooliganism and violence again the suspension will be enforced immediately.
In addition, the Appeals Committee ruled that for the remainder of this season and the next season, Makerere University shall play all its away matches without any fans. Only the 18 players and 5 match officials are permitted to go for away matches.
Makerere University soccer team thus resumes action today (June 22) at its home ground with a fixture against St Lawrence University.
