Makerere University is Uganda’s top institution that has for a long time set the pace in all-round excellence.
The 100-year old entity is set to add to its repertoire a landmark of being the first university to anchor the inaugural Association Of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Mind Sports Championship this month.
Mind Sports/Games consist of a family of sports in which the objective is to test mental strength rather than physical strength. These include Chess, Draughts, Bridge, Cards, Poker etc.
Winners from the above mentioned games will represent the country in Antwerp, Belgium in September this year, 2022.
“Makerere University will host the 1st AUUS Mind Sports Championship on 20th and 21st May 2022 and this will be a qualifier for the FISU World University Championship Mind Sports to be held in Antwerp, Belgium in September,” AUUS announced.
Below are some rules of engagement;
- The Championship is open to all universities in Uganda.
- A university may register either female or male teams, or both teams in both or either Chess or Bridge.
- International Chess Federation ( FIDE ) and the World Bridge Federation rules shall apply.
- Each team will pay participation fees of UGX 200,000
- Deadline for enforcing registration and participation is 13th May 2022.
