Yesterday 18th March 2020, Muni University trekked over 100 km to Gulu to play its third University Football League (UFL) match with hosts Gulu University at Gulu grounds.
Before the match Muni was trailing in group E with a huge negative goal difference, but the players followed their coach’s tactics very well which aided them to over take the hosts who were solid in their style of play.
Ivan Kakooza from the host team unlocked the scoring mode in the 7th minute of the game with a heavy strike at the edge of the box to give Gulu the lead. However, Gulu’s lead and cheers from the fans lasted only for 6 minutes when Nelson Pariyo from the Arua based University equalized the game with a nice finish from Ambrose Ochieng’s assist.
In the 41st minute, Albert Abiyo doubled the lead for the angry guests with a powerful shot within the box. The second half resumed with the visitors being more aggressive towards the ball and in the 76th minute the third goal for the visitors was scored through Caleb Mangunsho.
After this, Gulu players tried to regain possession by creating more chances of the two goals needed to level the game but all were in vain since the visitors resorted to defending their goals. The table is led by Bugema with 6 points followed by Nkumba with 4 points, Muni in the third and lastly Gulu with 3points and 1 point respectively. Bugema and Nkumba still have a game in hand.
