Ndejje University had a complete sweep of medals in Karate by the close of business on Saturday at the 16th Inter-University games going on at Busoga University in Iganga district.
The Luweero based institution won a total of 9 medals (6 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze).
No other University won gold. Busitema took 2 silver and 3 bronze medals as UCU won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals to finish third overall.
Ndejje University’s gold medals came in the Kata individual and team categories, Individual Kumite (60Kg, 67Kg and 75 Kg) as well as the team Kumite event.
Julius Shema won the individual Kata category before he combined to with Omar Usengimana and Frank Niyuhabwe to take the team Kata section.
Omar Usengimana, Julius Shema and Michael Makoha won the individual 60Kg, 67Kg and 75Kg respective Kumite categories.
To win the team Kumite gold, Ndejje combined the forces of Bestone Atukurira, Jean Pierre Kamanzi, Lambert Rwamaza, Omar Usengimana, Julius Shema, Fulgence Nsengiyoma and Frank Niyuhabwe.
Busitema University’s Andrew Kaweesa won silver in the individual Kata and he also helped his University clinch gold in the team Kata when he combined with Martin Ashaba and Yahaya Kintu.
Women:
Ndejje University also scooped gold in the women individual Kumite event through Linda Ochen who edged teammates Annet Namirembe, Slyvia Kabarangira and Beatrice Aketch to the precious medal.
Ndejje University has being dominant in the Karate event since inception on the University games menu.
