The St Mary’s SS Kitende magnificent stadium is nearing completion. With the dressing room, rest rooms and stands already finalized.
The SMASK stadium will be Uganda’s second biggest, after Mandela National Stadium, with a capacity of over 20,000.
Besides having a grand stand, the wing also has conference rooms, a hall of fame, offices, gym, beverage room and rest rooms that include an executive wing.
The school proprietor, Lawrence Mulindwa is solely financing the project which when complete will be Uganda’s first such facility owned by an individual.
The stadium will be the home of Vipers Soccer Club, also owned by Mulindwa. Vipers contribute some of the best players in the Uganda national football team, including the latest sensation Farouk Miya.
CAF approves
According to Kawowo Sports, FUFA confirmed the positive development via their official web portal, days after CAF inspector Nicholas Musonye was sent to Uganda on Tuesday to come up with a final report which was based on before the CAF Club Licensing Committee came up with the approval.
CAF Club Licensing Manager in the Competitions Department Ahmed Harraz signed the document forwarded to FUFA and Vipers Sports Club.
“Kindly be informed that CAF has approved the St Mary’s Stadium and you can now select it as a venue for your matches.”
The CAF Confederation match between South Africa’s Platium Stars and Vipers on 12th March 2017 will be hosted at the stadium.
