Saturday marked the conclusion of the second edition of the Acholi regional games for health training institutions. This adrenaline packed event was not only colored with brilliant displays of skill in both indoor and outdoor games, but also with a shocking display of verbal artillery which almost led to discussing with fists on several occasions!
In one game, after a Gulu SOCO chess player humiliated his opponent by slaughtering him in five moves, he went ahead to add salt to the poor chap’s wounds by informing him that, “I can beat your whole clan!” Well, punches almost flew around!
In another volleyball game between between institutions I won’t mention so as to spare my neck; the winners ended their game with the call of “they use muscles, we use brains!” This was followed by a vigorous release of very colorful obscenities from the trounced side and threats of conversing with knuckles if the other didn’t shut up.
This event which acted as qualifiers for the National games and sports health training Institutions soon to take place in Soroti; was won by Gulu School of Health Sciences, followed by St. Mary’s hospital Lacor Health Training School, Gulu Institute of health sciences, lastly with Kalongo Hospital Midwifery School vigorously waving the flag from behind.
