Suspended Makerere University lost their appeal to the University Football League disciplinary committee giving Gulu University a walk over to the semi finals of the prestigious University league.
Sitting at Namboole Stadium on 14th October, the University Football League disciplinary committee accused Makerere University’s administration of failing control the conduct of their fans who have continued to put the league into disrepute with “hooliganism” before slapping them a ban of two consecutive seasons.
Makerere deemed the decision ‘unfair’ asserting that their players did not play any role in the acts of their fans before kick off at Busitema University but the appeals committee upheld the directive saying fans are also an ‘integral’ part of the team.
“Fans are an integral part of the team and their actions can lead to the sanction of the team as per International football practice ” – A statement from the committee read in part
For starters, Makerere University fans invaded Busitema dinning hall shouting, abusing and forcefully ate food of the Busitema students breaking plates in the process and walked away with some food which sparked off violence and cancellation of the UFL match between the two sides hence calling for disciplinary intervention.
Gulu University will now wait for who their next opponent’s will be in the Semis as the decision left them with no opponent in the quarters.
We shall keep you posted.
