The group stage draws for the 2024/2025 University Football League (UFL) have been released, setting the stage for another thrilling season of inter-university football action.
The event, held today, grouped 23 universities into six groups, with each institution aiming to clinch the coveted title.
In Group A, defending champions Nkumba University, who secured their crown by defeating Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the final held in April 2024, find themselves in a competitive pool alongside Busitema University, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and ISBAT University.
Nkumba will look to build on last season’s momentum and defend their title.
Group B features top-tier contenders Makerere University, who will go head-to-head with Kumi University, Ndejje University, and Victoria University.
Makerere will aim to assert its footballing prowess once more, having a rich history in the competition.
Group C sees last year’s runners-up UCU pitted against Kabale University, St. Lawrence University, and YMCA. UCU will be seeking redemption after narrowly missing out on the title last season.
In Group D, Kampala University, Gulu University, Bugema University, and Kampala International University will vie for dominance.
Group E consists of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Muni University, University of Kisubi (Unik), and International University of East Africa (IUEA), while Group F features football giants Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Muteesa I Royal University.
With Nkumba University holding the title, all eyes will be on them as they kick off their campaign to retain the crown.
The group stages promise exciting matchups, with the tournament expected to run through to early 2025.
