The University Football League (UFL) kicks off its 2024/2025 season today with an exciting opener between Uganda Christian University (UCU) and St. Lawrence University at Mukono.
The league, which continues to grow in popularity, promises an action-packed group stage spanning from September to November 2024.
This year’s draw has grouped universities into six competitive pools, with 23 teams battling for supremacy.
Group A features Busitema University, ISBAT University, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and last season’s champions, Nkumba University. In Group B, Makerere University joins Kumi University, Ndejje University, and Victoria University. Group C is stacked with Uganda Christian University (UCU), Kabale University, St. Lawrence University, and YMCA Comprehensive Institute.
Meanwhile, Group D comprises Kampala University, Gulu University, Bugema University, and Kampala International University. Group E presents a showdown between Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Muni University, University of Kisubi, and the International University of East Africa (IUEA). Group F sees Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Muteesa I Royal University face off.
The group stages are set to deliver a flurry of games, with fans eagerly anticipating high-stakes matches like the one at Makerere University on Thursday, where the hosts will face Victoria University.
Other exciting fixtures in the first round include Busitema taking on IUIU and Kumi University squaring off against Ndejje.
Following Nkumba University’s triumph over UCU in April 2024, the defending champions are eager to retain their crown, but strong competition awaits from across the groups.
