It was all merry making and thrilling excitement as Ndejje University opened its doors to students from various universities across Uganda who are convening for the 17th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) also known as Inter University Games.
Students from universities as far as Kabale and Muni are assembling at the main campus of Ndejje university in Luweero to compete in various sports disciplines. It is estimated that over 4,000 participants and fans have gathered to witness the competitions in various sporting activities.
Among the universities present are, Makerere University, Makerere University Business school (MUBS), Uganda Christian University (UCU), Kabale University, Busoga University, Bishop Stuart in Mbarara, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Kyambogo, Kampala University, Kampala International University (KIU), Islamic University in Uganda(IUIU), Ndejje as the host university among others.
Thousands of students who gathered at the venue were thrilled with fireworks display at the opening ceremony that took place early this week. A number of students from far rural universities were however scared at the booming thunderous sounds of the fireworks that was being shot in the air.
Screams of delighted students and villagers who probably were seeing fireworks for the first time could not be ignored as some sought shelter in the trees. The opening ceremony was accompanied with lots of entertainment and dance activities as some male students from Busoga university feasted by squeezing babes from universities which are known to be ware houses of cute curvaceous queens especially MUBS.
However, the games are proceeding smoothly with a lot of noise coming in from fans and spectators. This year’s edition of the inter university games will most likely reach its climax today with an award ceremony.
Inter university games is one of the activities comprising of various sports organized by Association of Uganda University Sports (Varsity sports) and is aimed at bringing and uniting all universities and tertiary institutions across Uganda to compete in various sporting activities. Last year, Ndejje University won the championships with the highest number of medals when UCU hosted the games.
