As the Makerere University strike enters week two, the Police have mounted a thorough check point at all university access points and are requesting only university IDs for everyone entering the university.
This, according to sources within the university, is meant to deny entry to members of the media and journalists that may want to access university premises disguised as students. The Police are denying any forms of reporting gadgets into the university after the world was made to see the horrors they rained on students on the night of Thursday last week.
What is interesting however, is that a very big section of Makerere University students do not have university IDs after the machines that make the IDs were reported faulty and the students asked to wait.
This is the second week of the demonstrations at the Ivory Tower as students protest the 15% cumulative tuition increment that they claim has had most of their colleagues dropping out of schools because they cannot afford the tuition.
