You have probably seen them on Facebook and Instagram with among other things, cool hoodies under the label #WAYF.
“We Are Your Friends” is a fraternity that brings together different talents, motivates and inspires them to do better. It is a brainchild of university students in universities and other tertiary institutions across Uganda.
From fashion designers, photographers, painters, models, deejays (DJs) and a few upcoming musicians, #WAYF has it all.
As a result, they have a management chain that is pure and easily containable. Fashion designers, for instance, do all fabric related activities and models, photographers, DJs and musicians get to showcase and popularise them.
The project is basically four-wheeled and currently being run by four incredible and talented gentlemen from Kyambogo, Makerere and Artifield Designing Institute.
Kef Menelas (from Artfield) is the official photographer and graphic designer, Modern Kategaya (KYU) handles finances and all money related issues, Mwesigye Allan (Makerere) is in-charge of Marketing and Deriq Kitsinga is their Fashion Designer.
“We called it ‘We Are Your Friends’ to make it sound open and accepting. The name implies and shows how flexible and open to new ideas we all are,” Deriq Kitsinga says.
They deal in all types of clothes. Pants, t-shirts and all that. They also produce art pieces through WAYF art gallery.
“The name generally reveals our relationship with the outside world and how much we would want them to trust and believe in our work,” Kitsinga added.
