My name is James and I am a third year student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono. Sometimes, I laugh at myself whenever it happens but anyway, I think I need some help. For 2 years now, every time I have sex, the condom gets burst and other times remains in the lady’s vagina and I don’t know what to do or how to get it out. Am I the problem or am I using the condom wrongly? Please advise.

Hey James, I will begin by congratulating you on the efforts to always use a condom. Many young people shy away from the practice and it’s taking a toll on the generation, many young people are contracting HIV, suffering from STDs and getting unwanted pregnancies.
James, in a different tone, you have to laugh at yourself because I think you don’t know how to use a condom. Here are some quick tips on how to use rubber;
- Read the expiration date of any condom before use.
- Make sure there are no tears on the condom.
- Don’t use more than one condom at a time.
- Look at pictures to learn how to use a condom;
It’s not very normal for the condom to remain in the woman after sex and this shouldn’t worry you so much because the condom can be removed. When this happens, tell the woman to spread her legs and use two fingers to fish out the stray condom. Fix two fingers into the vagina and carefully pull out the condom. You or her can do it.
Just be sure your nails (or hers) are smooth since the tissue is delicate and easily scratched. If you’re having trouble locating the rubber, don’t worry; it can’t get lost in her body. Chances are, it’s become lodged at the top of her vaginal canal near the cervix, here she has to squat with her feet flat on the floor and bear down, or prop one foot on a chair and try to retrieve it with your fingers.
After these procedures, get an emergency method to keep your woman from getting pregnant if you are not ready to have a child as chances are high she will. Such circumstances actually occur in the event that someone doesn’t know how to properly use the condom. Sex shouldn’t be rushed, take your time and get it right.
