In a ceremony held today morning, Mr. Lubega Vincent Nsamba, alongside the Guild Representative Councilors, was officially sworn into office as the Guild President of the 90th Makerere University students’ Guild.
Mr. Nsamba’s journey to presidency was marked by a rigorous electoral process. During the elections held on March 7th, 2024, he emerged victorious amidst stiff competition from 15 other candidates.
Out of the 11,500 votes cast, Mr. Nsamba secured a significant mandate with 2,540 votes, earning him the trust and confidence of the student body.
However, his victory was not without controversy. A petition challenging the election results was filed by Mr. Edmond Ariho, one of the candidates, on March 10th, 2024. The petition alleged discrepancies in the electoral process and contested the outcome that declared Mr. Nsamba as the winner.
In response to the petition, the Dean of Students, who also serves as the Secretary of the Guild Elections Petition Tribunal, issued a notice confirming the receipt of Mr. Ariho’s petition. Despite the challenge, the petition was thoroughly reviewed and ultimately dismissed by the tribunal.
With the petition resolved, Mr. Lubega Vincent Nsamba’s victory has been reaffirmed, and he has now been officially sworn in as the Guild President.
The ceremony marks the beginning of his tenure, during which he is expected to lead the student body with integrity, dedication, and a commitment to their welfare and interests.
As the new Guild President, Mr. Nsamba expressed his gratitude to the student body for their support and trust in his leadership. He pledged to work tirelessly to address their concerns, promote unity, and advance the interests of Makerere University students.
