The Full Results
The three-candidate race produced the following outcome:
Onekgiu Pius — 1,295 votes (Winner)
Okot Fred Kidega — 1,141 votes
Tumusiime Emmanuel Treasure — 684 votes
The margin between the winner and his closest challenger was 154 votes — a relatively narrow gap that reflects the competitive nature of the contest and suggests Okot Fred Kidega mounted a strong campaign that pushed Onekgiu to perform consistently across the university’s voter base.
Tumusiime Emmanuel Treasure, who came in third with 684 votes, trailed the frontrunners by a significant margin. The contest was entirely male-dominated, with no female candidate in the final race.
Onekgiu Pius inherits the Guild Presidency at a university that has been growing steadily in both enrolment and academic profile since its establishment in 2002. As the 25th Guild President, he steps into a leadership role that carries responsibility for representing the student body in engagements with university management on academic policy, student welfare, and the full range of issues affecting campus life in northern Uganda’s premier public university.
His background in the Faculty of Education positions him within a discipline that is central to Uganda’s current national conversation about teaching, learning quality, and the transformation of the country’s education system — a context that may shape the priorities he brings to the guild office.
