Makerere University has sworn in the new 91st Electoral Commission this morning.
The commission will oversee the election of the upcoming elections including a new Guild President who will succeed the incumbent, H.E. Vincent Nsamba Lubega.
Joseph Murungi from the College of Health Sciences was elected as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, while Ms. Sharon Nyonyozi from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will serve as Vice Chairperson.
According to the Guild Constitution, all elections for the Guild President and Guild Representatives must be completed by March 18, 2025.
This timeline gives the commission approximately two months to organize and execute one of the often anticipated student elections.
The commission is expected to release a comprehensive electoral roadmap in the coming days.
With the swearing in, the stage is set for the incoming Guild President who will be the 91st to lead Makerere’s student body.
